The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Bénin chapter has vowed that its members would not be intimidated to enrolled in the integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) as directed by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It said no amount of threat or blackmail would made it shift ground. A press statement signed by UNIBEN-ASUU Chairman, Dr. Joy Omoregie and Secretary, Fabian Amaechina said it was appalled at the forcibly implemention of IPPIS in Nigeria federal universities. Dr. Omoregie said it aligned itself with the NEC declaration to call out its members on a nationwide strike if any member of the union is victimised for refusal to enrol into the IPPIS platform. Chukwuka Utazi, senator representing Enugu north, says there are 60 police checkpoints between Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra state. Utazi, moving a motion on the floor of the senate, on Thursday, lamented that the checkpoints were being used to oppress motorists and cause them hardship. The senator said the situation should be checked by Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP), before Yuletide. “60 checkpoints is what a traveller and the motoring public will have to confront in order to move from Lagos to Onitsha,” he said. Nigerians are in for a shock as the Finance Bill currently passed by National Assembly has amended sections 33, 49 & 58 of the Personal Income Tax Act. Thus, individuals are required to produce their Tax Identification Numbers (TIN) before they can operate existing or new bank accounts in Nigeria. What this means is that, if you don’t have TIN, you will not be able to operate your bank account. This may come as shock to many, but the important thing to do at this point is to ensure you have a TIN as the date for implementation has been set for 2nd of January 2020.
